Herd is a performance piece which exists only as the collective written memory of the 12 participants.
The first iteration of the Herd performance took place at a stable, full of glorious smells and ambient noises. Participants were asked to stand in the middle of an arena and close their eyes. After a few quiet minutes, large hoofbeats permeate the air as a friend rides his clydesdale, Jade, into the arena. The horse and rider walk, trot and canter in a circle around the group, switching direction to repeat the gaits. Horse and rider exit the arena. Everyone is asked to open their eyes. Each participant is provided a pad of paper, pen, and then asked to write their experience. Documentation exists as a collective written memory from twelve individuals.
